Carmen Electra in News
See through at Stuart
At Jill Stuart, models with severely flat-ironed hair and deep lavender eyeshadow paraded the runway (actually a series of halls at the New York Public Library) in diaphanous ensembles in shades of white and delicate lavenders, pinks and teals. The designer threw in a few dresses with black and white geometric prints to break up the mix.Spotted:

In reverse at Marc Jacobs
Everything was backward at the Marc Jacobs spectacle Monday night, from the shoes to the format of the show (and quite possibly Jacobs' watch: The event started a full two hours late). The ever-creative designer -- showing his first collection since a stint in rehab -- kicked off the show by taking an enthusiastic bow and parading the solemn models out in encore. (Both moves are traditionally done at the conclusion of the presentation.) Then, each model did a solo stroll as grainy video footage of women in underwear was projected on giant screens. The talk of the show? The Jacobs footwear with heels attached horizontally to the front of the shoe. It even impressed R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. "I was blown away," Stipe said post-show. "It was worth the wait. I liked the shoes with the heels in the wrong place. Pretty cool." The ladylike, lingerie-inspired collection -- heavy on blacks and a handful of pastels -- appeared to captivate the full house, which included
Victoria Beckham,
Carmen Electra,
Mischa Barton, Debbie Harry and
Michelle Rodriguez. Several looks had a sexy, zany librarian feel -- models wore oversized spectacles with tweed capelets and tuxedo pants. Hair was full, teased and piled high. Many of the pieces had a half-finished, haphazardly pieced-together feel. Jacobs referred to them as "one-half gowns" or "scrap tops," leaving one to wonder if it could be a nod to Jacobs' own struggle to become whole following struggles with alcohol and drug addiction.A segment featured semi-wearable, feminine gowns with rainbow-colored swans and floral prints. Formal wear included organza/tulle confections in black and white. A backless gown with fuscia floral detailing and bib, with black cummerbund, stole the show. Never one to shy away from irony, Jacobs paired some of the more pleasing pieces with oddball headgear -- from a mini dunce-like cap to a headband printed with the image of an oversized pair of sunglasses. -- Alison Maxwell
